CVE-2021-25284

Credential exposure via full command logging

Published Feb 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Credential exposure in SaltStack Salt before 3002.5 allows local users to place cleartext passwords in minion logs through cmdmod. salt.modules.cmdmod logs the complete command line at info or error level, preserving passwords supplied by webutils in /var/log/salt/minion. The path requires a non-default configuration and a highstate run on a minion without an existing htpasswd file; access to the log exposes the recorded password.
