Application admin access via readable database credentials
Published Feb 3, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in SolarWinds Orion Platform before 2020.2.4 allows local users to obtain database credentials and application admin access. Orion stores SQL Server login details in a filesystem-readable configuration file, allowing an unprivileged filesystem user to authenticate as database owner and alter Accounts table authentication data. Exploitation requires filesystem access; the resulting access can expose collected monitoring data and create or modify application administrator accounts.
