Scanning disablement via unvalidated iCoreService input
Published Feb 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Memory exhaustion in Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac 2021 (v11) allows local users to disable all scanning via crafted input. The iCoreService executable fails to validate user-supplied data before processing it, allowing memory consumption to grow until scanning stops. Exploitation requires low-privileged code execution on the Mac and user interaction with a malicious page or file, and the reported consequence is loss of scanning rather than data access or modification.
