Stored XSS via nonce-free snippet import
Published Feb 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in Post Snippets before 3.1.4 allows remote attackers to store script-bearing snippets through an administrator. The Tools import endpoint accepts an attacker-supplied ZIP archive without a CSRF nonce check, then deserializes and stores snippet fields without sanitizing or escaping them. A logged-in administrator must load attacker-controlled content that submits the import request; the stored script then executes on WordPress back-end pages.
