Chat disclosure and impersonation via unauthenticated REST endpoints
Published Dec 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in WP Guppy before 1.3 allows remote attackers to read usernames and chats or send messages as arbitrary users. The load-guppy-users and load-guppy-user-chat REST routes return user or conversation data without authorization, while send-guppy-message trusts caller-supplied user and receiver identifiers. Network access to the WordPress REST API is sufficient; no account is required, and exposed sites permit chat disclosure and message impersonation.
