Subscriber-level settings update to stored XSS
Published Feb 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in WP Responsive Menu before 3.1.7.1 allows remote authenticated users to inject stored script through the wpr_live_update AJAX action. The action lacks capability and CSRF checks and fails to sanitize or escape submitted settings, allowing a subscriber to write a malicious value that executes on frontend pages. Exploitation requires an authenticated WordPress account and causes script execution in visitors’ browsers, with no evidence of direct server command execution.
