Reflected XSS via unescaped AJAX data attribute
Published Dec 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reflected XSS in ProfilePress before 3.2.3 allows remote attackers to execute script in a victim's browser via a crafted AJAX request. The pp_get_forms_by_builder_type AJAX handler inserts the unescaped data parameter into an HTML attribute, permitting attribute breakout. Exploitation requires a victim to submit an attacker-controlled form; resulting script runs in the site's origin and can read or alter browser-accessible data.
