Reflected XSS via unsanitized post_id output
Published Dec 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Auto Featured Image (Auto Post Thumbnail) before 3.9.3 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript via crafted post_id requests. The admin upload page reflects post_id into a JavaScript block without sanitizing or escaping the value, allowing script injection in the WordPress origin. Exploitation requires a victim to visit a crafted administrative URL while authenticated, with impact bounded to actions and data available in that victim session.
