Admin stored XSS via unsanitized settings
Published Feb 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in StatCounter – Real Time Visitor Stats, Session Replay & Heatmaps before 2.0.7 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via admin settings. The plugin stores Project ID and Secure Code values without sanitizing or escaping them before rendering administrative pages, enabling persistent script injection. Exploitation requires a high-privilege WordPress account even when unfiltered_html is disabled, and the demonstrated impact is script execution in an administrator context.
