CVE-2021-24872Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Contributor-level metadata disclosure via unchecked shortcode lookup

Published Dec 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Incorrect authorization in Get Custom Field Values before 4.0 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary post metadata via shortcodes. The custom_field shortcode accepts attacker-selected field and post_id values and retrieves the corresponding metadata without verifying access to the target post. Contributor-level access is sufficient to embed the shortcode and disclose metadata belonging to other users, including administrators.
