Chat manipulation via nonce-less AJAX actions
Published Nov 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
CSRF in WordPlus Better Messages before 1.9.9.41 allows remote attackers to alter a logged-in user's messaging state via crafted AJAX requests. Seven wp-admin/admin-ajax.php actions for joining, leaving, muting, and changing thread membership accept state-changing POST data without validating a nonce. Exploitation requires a logged-in victim to submit an attacker-controlled request, and consequences are limited to unwanted chat and thread actions.
