Comment tampering via unchecked AJAX requests
Published Nov 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in AdvancedCoding wpDiscuz before 7.3.4 allows remote attackers to alter comments through logged-in users. The wpdAddComment, wpdDeleteComment, and wpdSaveEditedComment AJAX actions accept state-changing requests without validating a CSRF nonce. Exploitation requires a logged-in user to submit an attacker-controlled request; the user's permissions bound which comments can be added, edited, or deleted.
