Administrator takeover via missing settings nonce
Published Nov 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-Site Request Forgery in Simple JWT Login before 3.2.1 allows remote attackers to alter WordPress plugin settings through a logged-in administrator's browser. The settings-save handler accepts requests without verifying a WordPress nonce, allowing crafted forms to change the HMAC secret, enable registration, or set new users to Administrator. Exploitation requires an administrator to visit attacker-controlled content; successful changes can permit unauthenticated account creation and site takeover.
