Metadata deletion via unauthorized AJAX actions
Published Dec 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in Contact Form Advanced Database 1.0.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary metadata. The delete_cf7_data AJAX action accepts attacker-controlled record identifiers and metadata keys without a capability check, then passes supplied values to maybe_unserialize() without validation. Subscriber-level access is sufficient; object injection additionally requires a usable gadget chain in another installed plugin, while metadata deletion does not.
