Contributor-level post metadata tampering via unchecked AJAX handler
Published Nov 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper access control in Image Source Control before 2.3.1 allows remote authenticated users to alter arbitrary WordPress post metadata. The isc_save_meta AJAX action accepts caller-selected post IDs, metadata keys, and values without checking whether the account can edit the target post. A Contributor account and an editor-issued nonce are required; successful requests can modify metadata on posts outside that account's control.
