Thumbnail removal via unchecked download identifier
Published Nov 8, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper access control in Simple Download Monitor before 3.9.6 allows remote authenticated users to remove another owner's thumbnail. The sdm_remove_thumbnail_image AJAX action accepts an attacker-controlled post_id_del value and removes the associated thumbnail without verifying ownership or edit permission. Contributor-level access is sufficient, and the demonstrated consequence is unauthorized modification of another user's download metadata.
