Contributor stored XSS via shortcode attributes
Published Jan 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Tips and Tricks HQ Simple Download Monitor before 3.9.11 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via crafted shortcodes. The sdm_download shortcode accepts color or css_class values and sdm_search_form accepts class or placeholder values without sufficient escaping before storage and later page rendering. A Contributor-level account can save the payload, and execution occurs when a victim views content containing the shortcode, allowing script-driven page actions within that victim's WordPress session.
