Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Oct 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in the glossary_tooltip shortcode in CreativeMinds CM Tooltip Glossary before 3.9.21 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts. The shortcode outputs attacker-controlled dashicon and link attributes without escaping, allowing event handlers or JavaScript URLs to persist in rendered pages. The attacker needs a Contributor account, and execution requires another user to view the crafted content, exposing that user's browser session to script actions.
