Administrator-level stored XSS via unescaped settings
Published Oct 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in the Sociable WordPress plugin 4.3.4.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in other users' browsers. Skyscraper Background Color and Labels Color settings accept a script payload that the plugin renders in the WordPress administration dashboard without sanitization or output escaping. A high-privilege account must save the payload, and another dashboard user must view the affected output; the attack works even when unfiltered_html is disabled.
