Stored XSS via inconsistently escaped shortcode attributes
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Vladimir Anokhin Shortcodes Ultimate before 5.10.2 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via shortcode attributes. Most shortcode handlers render attacker-controlled attributes without consistent escaping, while the su_button onclick attribute accepts executable content by design. Contributor access is required to save a crafted shortcode, and the script runs when another user views the stored content.
