Contributor-level database access via shortcode SQL injection
Published Aug 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
SQL injection in QuantumCloud Slider Hero before 8.2.7 allows remote authenticated users to read or modify WordPress data. The hero-button shortcode places its unsanitized id attribute directly into a SQL statement, letting crafted shortcode content alter the query. Contributor-level permission to create and preview a post is sufficient, and the published proof of concept extracts WordPress usernames and password hashes.
