Stored XSS via unescaped endpoint settings
Published Aug 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in ProfilePress before 3.1.8 allows remote authenticated users with administrator privileges to execute JavaScript in visitors' browsers. The Edit Account Endpoint and Change Password Endpoint settings accept script-bearing values without sanitization or escaping, persist them, and render them into a page. An administrator can plant the payload even when unfiltered_html is disabled; execution requires another user to view the affected page.
