Stored XSS via unsanitized shortcode parameters
Published Jul 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Jeff Starr's Prismatic WordPress plugin before 2.8 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts via crafted shortcodes. The prismatic_code class attribute, nested prismatic_encoded attributes, and Base64-decoded prismatic_encoded body are rendered without sanitization or validation. Contributors need administrator approval before a post can trigger the payload, while editors can publish directly; execution occurs when a visitor views or, with some themes, clicks the content.
