Authenticated plugin activation via unchecked AJAX action
Published Jun 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in WPDeveloper Simple 301 Redirects 2.0.0 through 2.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to activate installed plugins. The simple301redirects/admin/activate_plugin AJAX handler accepts an attacker-controlled plugin basename, validates only a REST nonce available to any signed-in user, and calls activate_plugin() without a capability check. Any authenticated account, including a subscriber, can activate an installed plugin and execute that plugin's initialization behavior under the site's WordPress process.
