Arbitrary plugin installation via unchecked AJAX handler
Published Jun 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in WPDeveloper Simple 301 Redirects 2.0.0 through 2.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to install plugins. The install_plugin AJAX handler accepts an attacker-chosen repository slug without a capability check, while its wp_rest nonce is obtainable by any authenticated user. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to add arbitrary WordPress repository code to the site, enabling further compromise if a suitable plugin is available.
