Contributor-to-Administrator takeover via unenforced widget tags
Published May 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Wpmet ElementsKit Lite and Pro before 2.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to inject JavaScript through widgets. Modified save_builder requests place attacker-controlled HTML-tag values into Fun Fact, Heading, Icon Box, and Pro Motion Text parameters that are output without filtering or escaping. Contributor access is sufficient, and the stored script runs when another user views or previews the page, enabling takeover if that user is an administrator.
