Unauthenticated option update via empty API key

Published Apr 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Authentication bypass in Thrive Themes WordPress plugins and themes before their fixed releases allows remote attackers to alter predefined wp_options entries via a REST API request. The Zapier-associated endpoint accepted an empty api_key when Zapier was disabled, then stored attacker-supplied data in a WordPress option. No authentication or user interaction is required; the impact is integrity loss and can support further compromise when a modified option influences site behavior.
