Stored XSS via unchecked Divider HTML tag
Published Apr 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Elementor Website Builder before 3.1.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through the Divider widget. The server-side renderer accepts save_builder's html_tag value without enforcing its client-side allowlist, saving script and attacker-controlled text as executable markup. Contributor access is required, and the code runs when another user views or previews the saved page, exposing that viewer's WordPress session to administrator creation or backdoor installation.
