Arbitrary plugin installation via unrestricted AJAX action
Published May 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper authorization in WP-Buy Tree Sitemap before 2.9 allows remote authenticated users to install and activate arbitrary plugins. The cp_plugins_do_button_job_later_callback AJAX handler trusts low-privilege slug or plugin_file parameters and invokes WordPress plugin installation or activation without a capability check. Any low-privilege WordPress account can deploy a repository plugin or activate an installed plugin; code execution requires an exploitable plugin.
