Contributor-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked role parameter
Published Apr 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in ThemeIsle Orbit Fox 2.10.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to create WordPress administrator accounts. The registration widget trusts a crafted user_role setting because its Elementor and Beaver Builder save paths hide the selector client-side without enforcing server-side authorization. Exploitation requires contributor-level editor access, enabled user registration, and either Elementor or Beaver Builder; a new registrant then receives administrator privileges.
