Administrator-level code execution via unverified feed artwork
Published Mar 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Blubrry PowerPress before 8.3.8 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP through feed artwork. The feed-settings handler accepts an rss2_image_file named with a PHP extension and stores its unverified content under the web-accessible PowerPress uploads directory. Administrator access and a valid settings nonce are required; requesting the stored PHP file executes attacker-supplied code in the WordPress server context.
