Memory corruption via one-to-one call handling
Published Jan 4, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Meta WhatsApp clients allows attackers to corrupt client memory when a user places a one-to-one call. Affected releases are WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business before 2.21.23 on Android and before 2.21.230 on iOS, plus WhatsApp before 2.2143 on KaiOS. The calling logic writes beyond a heap buffer during the call; Meta has not disclosed the function, processed call data, or consequences beyond memory corruption.
