CVE-2021-23983Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Browser crash via invalid marker transition property

Published Mar 31, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Memory corruption in Mozilla Firefox before 87 allows remote attackers to crash the browser through crafted CSS transitions. The CSS Transitions and Animations code passes an invalid ::marker property identifier to nsCSSPropertyIDSet::HasProperty, producing an out-of-bounds array access when a parent rule is removed. The attack requires a user to load attacker-controlled HTML that changes the parent style, and the demonstrated consequence is an immediate tab crash.
