Privilege escalation via unquoted execution path
Published Mar 15, 2021 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Unquoted search path in McAfee Endpoint Product Removal Tool before 21.2 allows local users with administrator rights to execute code. The tool invokes a privileged executable path without enforcing or protecting the complete path, causing a crafted executable in a compromised parent folder to be selected. Local administrator privileges are required to place the crafted file, and successful exploitation runs it with higher privileges.
