Authenticated code execution via unsafe XML decoding
Published Jun 23, 2021 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Unsafe XML deserialization in Oracle OpenGrok 1.6.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute code through HTTPS. The plugin configuration decoder passes XML to java.beans.XMLDecoder with the general application class loader, allowing attacker-selected classes and methods such as Runtime.exec or ProcessBuilder.start. Low-privileged access to the affected web application path is sufficient for command execution and complete OpenGrok takeover.
