Authenticated code execution via environment variable override
Published Mar 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Command injection in GitHub Enterprise Server before 3.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through GitHub Pages builds. In affected releases, GitHub Pages accepts user-controlled configuration options that override environment variables consumed during a site build. Exploitation requires permission to create and build a Pages site, and successful execution runs on the Enterprise Server instance.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=2.21 <2.21.17
