Remote code execution via malformed OTA update parsing
Published May 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Integer overflow in Texas Instruments SimpleLink Wi-Fi SDKs allows remote authenticated users to execute code via malformed OTA updates. The firmware-update parser performs overflowing integer arithmetic while parsing attacker-controlled data in a malformed update file. Reaching the parser requires high-privilege remote access to supply an over-the-air update; successful exploitation executes code in the affected device context.
