Remote code execution via OTA stack overflow
Published May 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in Texas Instruments SimpleLink SDKs allows remote authenticated users to execute code during OTA updates. During processing of firmware delivered by the CDN, the OTA update path writes more data to a stack buffer than the buffer can hold. Exploitation requires authenticated network access and a crafted update that the device processes; memory corruption can execute code or crash the device.
