CVE-2021-22390Public exploit

Kernel code execution via NPU mapping use-after-free

Published Aug 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Use-after-free in the NPU kernel driver in Huawei EMUI 11.0.0 allows attackers controlling hiaiserver to execute kernel code via partial unmaps. The npu_vm_close handler frees shared vm_private_data after a partial unmap splits a /dev/davinci0 mapping, leaving other regions with dangling pointers that can be freed again. SELinux restricts the device node to hiaiserver, so exploitation requires control of that process and can elevate execution into the kernel.
