Control-network denial of service via unexpected TCP traffic
Published Feb 4, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Improper input validation in ABB SPIET800 and PNI800 firmware A_B and earlier allows remote attackers to halt device communications. Their TCP packet-processing stack mishandles certain unexpected traffic, leaving the IET or PNI component unresponsive until a manual reboot. Access to the control network or a system server is required, and the outage prevents connected operator and engineering systems from transacting with the module.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
