Unauthenticated code execution via log handler overwrite
Published Mar 3, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Arbitrary file upload in VMware View Planner 4.x before 4.6 Security Patch 1 allows remote attackers to execute code in the logupload container. The unauthenticated logupload endpoint accepts attacker-controlled multipart metadata that selects log_upload_wsgi.py and overwrites the executable WSGI handler without validating the target or requiring authorization. Network access to the View Planner Harness is sufficient; the overwritten handler executes with the Apache user's privileges inside the appacheServer container.
