Authenticated file disclosure via unsanitized getenv key
Published Dec 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Path traversal in the CMA CLI getenv command in Garrett Metal Detectors iC Module CMA 5.0 allows remote authenticated users to read files. The getEnv handler appends the unvalidated key to /ltrx_user/env/ and passes the resulting path to readfile, allowing ../ sequences to escape that directory. Access requires authentication to the TCP 6877 CLI, and disclosure is limited to files no larger than 396 bytes because longer reads corrupt the stack and crash the process.
