CVE-2021-21906Public exploit

Code execution via unbounded secret-file read

Published Dec 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in Garrett Metal Detectors iC Module CMA 5.0 allows attackers to execute code through a malformed secret file. The readfile function copies /ltrx_user/secret byte by byte into checkPassword's 35-byte encrypted_pwd stack buffer without checking its length. Exploitation requires prior control of the secret file; a later CLI authentication attempt triggers stack corruption and program-counter control.
