CVE-2021-21872Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated root command execution via unsanitized protocol parameter

Published Dec 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

OS command injection in Lantronix PremierWave 2050 8.9.0.0R4 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. The Traceroute handler inserts the attacker-controlled protocol POST parameter into a traceroute command without validating its expected udp, tcp, or icmp value, then passes the string to a system-command executor. Web Manager credentials are required; a crafted HTTP request escapes the traceroute command and executes arbitrary commands with root privileges.
