CVE-2021-21866Public exploit

Arbitrary code execution via unsafe profile deserialization

Published Aug 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Unsafe deserialization in CODESYS Development System 3.5.16 and 3.5.17 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted project file. The ProfileInformation.ProfileData setter passes profile.auxiliary bytes from a project or template directly to BinaryFormatter.Deserialize. Exploitation requires a local user to open the malicious project or template, after which code runs in that user's context.
