Code execution via truncated URL atom size
Published Aug 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in GPAC 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to execute code by convincing a user to open a crafted MPEG-4 file. The url_box_read function truncates a 64-bit URL atom size to 32 bits for allocation, then indexes that buffer with the original 64-bit size. Exploitation requires user interaction and a 64-bit process; the demonstrated input causes a heap-buffer-overflow crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
