Code execution via stz2 sample-count overflow
Published Aug 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Integer overflow in GPAC 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to execute code by convincing a user to open a crafted MPEG-4 file. The stsz_box_read parser reused for stz2 atoms multiplies an untrusted 32-bit sample count by sizeof(u32) without checking SIZE_MAX, creating an undersized heap allocation before sample data is written. Exploitation requires user interaction and a 32-bit build; the resulting heap overwrite can execute code in the affected process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
