Code execution via stsc allocation integer overflow
Published Aug 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Integer overflow in GPAC 1.0.1 stsc decoding allows attackers to execute code by convincing a user to open a crafted MPEG-4 file. The stsc_box_read function multiplies an untrusted entry count by the GF_StscEntry size, allocates the wrapped result, and writes parsed entries beyond the undersized heap buffer. Exploitation requires user interaction; successful exploitation runs code in the context of the process using the library.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
