Code execution via overflowing ssix range allocation
Published Aug 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap-based buffer overflow in GPAC 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to execute code after a user opens a crafted MPEG-4 file. The ssix_box_read parser multiplies an untrusted range_count by the GF_SubsegmentRangeInfo size without ensuring the product fits in size_t, then initializes the undersized array. Exploitation requires a 32-bit build and user interaction; the demonstrated overwrite corrupts heap memory in the process context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
