Memory corruption via ctts entry-count multiplication overflow

Published Aug 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Integer overflow in GPAC 1.0.1 ctts atom decoding allows attackers to corrupt memory through a crafted MPEG-4 file. The ctts_box_read function multiplies an untrusted 32-bit entry count by sizeof(GF_DttsEntry) without checking for size_t overflow, creating an undersized heap allocation before filling the entries. This requires a user to open the file on a 32-bit build and allows a process crash or code execution in the library context.
